Fort Humboldt State Historic Park

Our next adventure took us to Fort Humboldt State Historic Park.

This is the district office of the West Coast Redwoods. I wonder if they have any job openings...

From the California Parks Website:

"Like a large number of historic sites in California, Fort Humboldt shares a complex, and often disturbing history of California. Coupled with and fueled by California’s Gold Rush and Statehood, Fort Humboldt is a site that represents a direct physical remnant of 19th century colonialism."

There were very few people exploring on this day. It may have been due to the rainy weather.

The buildings, despite their age, still look to be in good condition.

It's a teddy-sized house!

In one section of the park, they showed trains and equipment used in logging. Sadly, many trees were cut down for lumber. Much of the old growth forest is gone.

Fortunately, we have learned to protect our forests and are finding ways to bring back the trees. Logging still occurs, but we are doing what we can to keep our trees.

A new state historical marker for me!
