National Corn Chip Day

 

Corn chips are delicious. They are great on their own, or in dips.

Fritos is a popular brand.

Other places make their own as well.

To be an unbiased blogger, I have to try more than one brand too give a better informed opinion. And I do like the Fritos more than the other. But they are both good and both taste good scooping up a large dollop of guacamole.

National Blueberry Pancake Day

 

Pancakes are delicious and easy to make. I just don't make them often.

Today was blueberry pancake day, so I did add that fruit to the batter. They came out looking more teal, so it looks like a mint chip cookie and not a blueberry pancake. It was still tasty.

I do use a mix because it is so much easier than measuring all of the dry ingredients on my own. And I like this mix because I can also use it for biscuits, and waffles.

LEGO Play

 

I have the roller coaster set. I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I decided to build it.

But since it is National LEGO Day, it is a good time to get to work.

There are thousands of bricks. It might be next year's LEGO day before I finish building this set!

Once it is built, this is what it will look like.

Oh my, hundreds of these are all the same shape and color. I hope it doesn't make me nutty when working with them.

Chocolate Cake

 

I baked a chocolate cake.

With yummy frosting.

It started with a dry mix.

I stirred in the wet ingredients.

Sure, I did use pre-made ingredients, but it was partially home baked. According to those who ate it, it was very good.

Vacation Planning

 

January 26th is Plan For Vacation Day. This month is a good one for planning where you would like to go in the year.

I use California interest books as a way to plan my upcoming trips. I do like all of the big, famous tourist areas. But I am also interested in the local spots and peculiar destinations.

Ghost towns are always a fun place, full of history with a bit of a creepy element.

My favorite book to help me with planning is Weird California by Greg Bishop, Joe Oesterle, and Mike Marinacci. I have planned many trips from it and have knocked a few places off of my list. This year we still have some restrictions in place, so we have to stay within a certain distance of home. I will find some fun places to visit, and when it is safe, I will visit the Salton Sea, and go hunting for Bigfoot in Willow Creek.

Time for Pie

 January 23rd is National Pie Day. There are other days devoted to other pies, and also just pie in general.

I thought that since I would be having cherry pie that I would make it a savory pie day, too.

I had a delicious chicken pot pie for dinner. I like the peas, potatoes, and gravy. And also the crust. So I could just eat a veggie pot pie and be happy.

Comfort foods like these sure do make me feel warm and fuzzy when it is winter.

And now, cherry pie time.

This pie was especially tart, which I like. I do enjoy a range of desserts in a range of taste sensations.

I don't eat a lot of pie because I don't usually think about it. My favorites are fresh peach in the summer, and Boston cream other times. And I love cheesecake, but is that a pie? Or is it a cake?
 

Cheese Lover's Day

 

Two great events on the same day, what a time to be alive. A new President, and a day for those who love cheese.

Perhaps the most popular way to eat cheese is part of a pizza.

My favorite pizza is vegetarian. I like my pizza piled high with vegetables, and not just the basics like onion, garlic, olives, and mushrooms. But things like zucchini, artichoke hearts, kale, and asparagus are also toppings I like.

My cuddly human made a delicious cheese ball that was so good. It had cream cheese and was rolled in seeds. It was so good spread on crackers. I hope he will make more cheese balls in the future.

I like the individual wrapped cheeses, they are the perfect size to put on a Ritz cracker.

Fresh mozzarella is one of my favorite cheeses. I like how soft and wet it is, and I like it plain on a cracker, or with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Cream cheese is also so good.

With a heart full of hope and a belly full of cheese, I was ready for a good, long night of peaceful sleep.

Inauguration Day

 

Today was a glorious day of celebration.

Today, we have a chance to save the polar bears.

Today, we feel peace and hope for all teddies.

We love our country, we love to celebrate.

It was so fun to celebrate this historic day with many of my friends.
