Going Back Home

And that was the vacation. Exploring so much of Northern California, getting to see bears climb trees, see a whole town devoted to Bigfoot, sleep in a train... all so much fun.

I got my road trip Starbucks and was heading home.

And now it's time to plan my next vacation!

Wine Museum

The hotel has an on-site wine museum for registered guests. It is open 24 hours!

Like some of the displays outside, there are wine making relics, showing how things were done many generations ago.

Along with props, there were posters and maps hanging.

There is a collection of bottles.

I would love a bottle tree like this.

They had a book with a lot of information about wine history. I was hoping they would have a copy in my room, but they didn't. Next time I stay here, I will take more time to read through it. (If you are reading this, great people of Mission de Oro, you should sell copies in your gift shop!)

I definitely need one of these for my library.

There have been so many types of wine tools, including dozens of different types of cork openers.

This looks more like a coffee maker.

How can I get one of these for my wall?

Even the carpet is decorated with grapes.

This was not full of wine.

I could use a barrel or two.

They give registered guests a special key card that gives access to the museum. Visit as many times as you like during your stay - and any time of day or night!

They don't have an attached wine shop, which seems like a missed opportunity. At least offer some trinkets for sale with the logo!

Mission Grounds

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful.

There are multiple fountains in many places.

The sound of the water is comforting.

Oh, look - another fountain!

This architecture is pleasing to look at. It really has the feel of the historic California missions.

There is a lot of wine making history on display here.

If you enjoy wine, or history, or interesting things to photograph, you will have an amazing time here.

I did dream about becoming a wine maker. But with all of these tools and contraptions, I think I might just stick to being a taster.

The lobby is welcoming and also a place to take in the beauty.

Another fountain!

There are a couple of koi ponds on the property.

What is it about koi ponds that is so tranquil? Give me a book and I could fall asleep for a good afternoon snooze.

That is the bell tower. It is not open for anyone to climb up, unfortunately.

They have bocce ball and horseshoes. And a swimming pool and hot tub as well.

Many plants and flowers enhance the wonderful landscape.

Imagine taking a stroll through here, sipping on some wine and loving life.

Another amazing thing here are the fire pits. You can even buy s'mores kits at the check-in desk to make your own! This truly is a destination all its own.

Also on the property, they have their own vineyard. I wasn't able to get there at this time, but I will be back for sure.
