Columbia State Historic Park

I don't even need to say what I did first once we hit the road.

We checked into The Fallon Hotel which actually sits within a California state park.

It's an original hotel, maintained too look the way it did for the miners back in the 1860's. So you won't find a television, phone, coffee maker, or even a shower in the rooms.

They do have a community shower available, away from the rooms, so as to not take away from the atmosphere.

They provide bath robes and shower baskets that guests can carry to the shower rooms.

Mr Duffy and I found a rocking chair.

These are the smallest beds we have ever slept in, whether a hotel or friend's house. It was a tight squeeze!

After unloading our bags, we went to the Columbia House Restaurant.

We ordered fried zucchini as an appetizer.

I had a loaded hot dog that was topped with bacon, beans, cheese, tomatoes, and jalapenos.

It was served with potato salad which was good. A recipe unlike others I have tried, but still tasty.

After filling up on food, we walked around Columbia.

No trip anywhere is complete unless we visit a candy store. Nelson's is an original, famous for their hand rolled candy canes they make for Christmas. People wait in a long line to buy one.

These hard candies look interesting. What does Anise taste like?

I bought some divinity, chocolate bears, and fruit jellies.

Old stage coach.

An old toilet. Yikes!

Next we stopped in the Columbia Museum.

Wow, gold is expensive.

Some famous movies have been filmed in and around Columbia.

There was a pile of bricks we could use to build things.

After leaving the museum, we went to the bowling alley. They had a card table there.

And also, bowling! Back in those days, a person had to remove and reset all of the pins. It felt more like skee ball than bowling.

The last place we visited before checking in for the night was the Columbia jail. This looked like a miserable place. I mean, I know jail isn't supposed to be like a spa, but this should have discouraged anyone from holding up a stage coach or robbing a saloon.
