Day 1: Anaheim and Buena Park

I went to Knott's Village in Buena Park. I was not going to Knott's Berry Farm. I'm not a fan of the place, but I do like the shops and restaurants just outside.

I like the assortment of Peanuts merchandise available in the area. It's too bad they didn't have a Charlie Brown shirt in my size.

I wasn't too chicken to climb up on this statue.

One good thing about Knotts is the jam. Boysenberry is one of my favorites and this is the place to get it.

After I left Buena Park I was hungry and went to the new Garden Walk in Anaheim. There I ate at the Cheesecake Factory. I ate avocado rolls and turtle cheesecake. Avocado and caramel are two of my main food groups so that worked out.

I was still a bit tired from the long drive so I turned in early Friday night. I picked up a bottle of sarsaparilla from Knott's and enjoyed it as I read Twilight for the second time. I needed rest to prepare for my next day.

Happy 4th!

I was fortunate to watch two fireworks displays. One was from Angels Stadium in Anaheim. The other was the Disneyland fireworks spectacular. I watched from my hotel balcony and was pleased to not be stuck in traffic. I think my favorite part of the fireworks show was watching an LAPD helicopter chasing a car down the freeway while shining its spotlight on the driver. That's Southern California for you.

Headin' Out West Where I Belong...

Well, I'm already west, so I guess it's technically south.

It's that time again, my big summer trip to Southern California.

"Getting There Is Half The Fun" (Sure, if you're not stuck on 152 for two blasted hours!) When I saw the sign for Casa de Fruta stating it was three miles away, I figured I would be there in an hour, since traffic was moving about that fast. Sometimes it was six miles an hour, sometimes it was stopped for minutes at a time.

I arrived at Casa de Fruta behind schedule, but my spirits recovered when I saw this old truck parked in the back. With the Twilight series as my latest obsession I had to take a photo of the Cullen truck.

I knew I was headed for a long night what with holiday traffic. I wasn't surprised by the amount of people going out on holiday, but I was impressed with the traffic despite the high gas prices. I decided to hang out at Casa de Fruta for a couple of hours. I ate dinner, hung out on the playground reading, shopped a bit and geared up for the trek to I5.

Wine sure would have relaxed me, though I skipped a taste since I was driving. I might be crazy but I'm not stupid...

After I picked up my first batch of postcards I left Hollister and got on the road. 75 miles to my first Starbucks stop.
