Queen Califia's Magic Circle

Where's Califia?

Today I was in Escondido. I went there to visit Queen Califia's Magical Circle which is part of Kit Carson Park.

How did a park get my name? Well, the park was there first. I was named after Califia, and she is a big deal in California.

The park is a big sculpture garden. Each sculpture is constructed out of stone and either colored with pebbles or mosaic tiles.

Here is a statue of Queen Califia herself.

The statues have so many great details and fabulous colors.

This is in the underside of the giant Califia centerpiece.

I like how the snake is wrapped around this pole.

This is what you see as you approach the circle.

This is a labyrinth of sorts, all made from tiles.

You can see how there are so many small bits that make up the various colors and how the final piece looks with all of the tiles. This must have taken a lot of work.

There are serpents wrapping themselves around the whole of the perimeter.

These totem poles are tall, with a few animals on each.

The face was made of pebbles. It made for a nice, smooth texture.

There was a bench where visitors could rest.

I enjoyed looking at the variety of animals climbing up the poles.

I liked the rocky look of this.

What a creature! This park sure is enjoyable, and worth a visit if you happen to be in Escondido. Just be sure to check the hours, they have a very limited time to visit!
