The Biggest Little City in the World

Just a few short miles after crossing the state line, I arrived at my destination: Reno. I checked into my hotel which was the Atlantis Resort.

They had the usual amenities in the room with a big TV and a refrigerator.

The fridge was too small to store all the snacks a bear likes to travel with. But it kept my beverages cold and my fruit crispy, so that was good.

There was a desk with outlets for a variety of plugs.

They had a king size bed with a good, sturdy blanket which has been becoming less common in hotel rooms. And the pillows were amazing, I sunk right into them.

There were two soft chairs with a little table for people who wanted to maybe eat or play a board game.

I like how they had this guide to Reno and Tahoe, but it was more of a book of ads than a travel guide.

They provided two tiny bottles of water.

The bathroom was spacious with a full tub.

They had the standard free coffee and tea, but I didn't use any.

The toiletries had a pleasant scent.

After unloading all my luggage, I wanted to go exploring right away.

As the theme is Atlantis, there are many water features throughout the resort.

I was tempted to jump in and swim, but since I didn't see any other teddies in the water, I thought better of it.

I found their arcade and they had an impressive amount of games. This Pacman behind me is so much bigger than it looks in the picture. It is the world's biggest, after all.

This is the game my male human companion spent a lot of time on. It is neat that after each game, they dispense a collectible card with a member of the Justice League on it. You can then scan the card on your next game to build a team. I would love to see this done with Marvel.

 It's-a-Mario!

There is an eatery in the arcade that has the standard arcade stuff like hot dogs, pizza, and burgers. They also had a lot of ice cream on offer, too.

And they had these candy toppings which I really wanted to sample.

Star Wars pinball is always fun to see.

Skee-ball is one of my favorite arcade games.

There were a few claw machines and this one had some friends I could bring home. But I didn't give it a chance because they are very hard to win.

Now these DC and Willy Wonka games were ones I played a lot. They are the coin dozer games and they dispense casino chips and character cards that are turned in for tickets to be used for prizes.

It was dinner time and I was in the mood for seafood. There was an oyster and sushi bar in the hotel and I wanted to check it out.

 Sky Terrace Oyster Bar
They brought out a basket with a variety of breads. They had these interesting flat crackers that were tasty, if a bit dry.

I ordered these delicious calamari strips to start my meal. They were so good, especially with the dipping sauces.

While I was waiting for my dinner, I played a round of Keno. Unfortunately, I lost.

The oysters arrived. This was my first time trying oysters this way and I really liked them.

One of my human companions ordered this big bowl of steamed clams. It looked really tasty.

My other companion ordered this fettuccini with a variety of seafood in it. I would say this is one of my very favorite meals.

After dinner, we went back to the arcade to play. I found a Wizard of Oz coin dozer that I spent a bit of time playing.

There was a candy crane machine that I wanted to try.

I won a bag of skittles and a tiny piece of chewy candy.

After leaving the arcade, I stopped by the slot machines to try my luck. Alas, no such thing.

Before heading back to my room, I wanted to see where the pool was.

They have a beautiful indoor pool. Since Reno is in the desert, it gets too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter to be outside in the pool. So this one they have all year round.

There is a big waterfall feature inside and a glass ceiling so natural light gets in.

After exploring the pool area, I went upstairs.

I relaxed for a while, unwinding from the drive and enjoying being on vacation. I got hungry after a bit and ordered room service.

I got a vegetarian wrap with fries.

Then it was time to get to sleep. My first full day in Reno was ahead and I planned on more exploring.
