Old Town San Diego, Part Two: Sheriff's Museum

My next stop was at the San Diego County Sheriff's Museum. You enter through a gift shop where you pay for your self-guided tour.

This sheriff bear was guarding the room where many guns from throughout time are on display.

I got to see what a jail cell is like.

This is where they take booking photos.

You get to make one phone call. Don't use it to order a pizza.

This exhibit shows how uncomfortable a cell is.

Women in the county law enforcement.

They had a uniform hanging and encouraged people to try it on.

Here is an old parking meter.

I got to sit on a real police motorcycle. The nice officer working in the room let me sit on one. He then turned on the lights and sirens. It was really awesome!

There were some old street signs in the motorcycle room.

This is a slot machine that was seized from the police because this type of gaming was illegal in California at the time.

California, the greatest place in the whole world.

Here were some wines on display.

This little bear was hidden in a lot of displays. They have a game at the museum where they invite children to spot as many of these bears as they can.

California state seal featuring the real Califia.

They had a small courtroom where they had a judge's robe hanging. A sign next to it welcomed people to try it on. Some people went a step further and sat in the chambers, pretending to make a decision.

They had displays of significant events that happened in San Diego county, detailing what happened and sometimes the reasons for why these things happened.

San Diego is a big beach city and the county sheriffs help in emergencies that happen in the water.

In the courtyard, they have a police car that you can sit in and play with.

And they also have this police copter that you can sit in. I think I might want to ride in a real helicopter one day.

And that is it for the Sheriff's Museum. It can take as little as a half hour if you rush through it, or you could spend two or three hours reading every sign and watching every video. Go at your own pace!

Just outside of the museum was this gigantic pinata. I would love to get candy out of this one.
